We are delighted to congratulate OOC DTP student Chris Goring on winning the 2026 Postgraduate Prize awarded by the Society of Dix-Neuviémistes for the best postgraduate conference paper!
Chris’ paper “The allegorical architectures of pleasure and joy in Émile Zola’s Pot-Bouille and Au Bonheur des Dames” was highly praised by the judging panel for its originality, theoretical sophistication, and contribution to the academic writing and criticism on Zola's writing, and nineteenth-century French studies as a whole.
The Society noted the paper’s “model of concision” and highlighted its strong potential for future development and publication.
As a first-year doctoral researcher, Chris’ achievement is particularly noteworthy, and we are very proud to see his work recognised at this level so early in his doctoral journey. We are certain this will be the first of many future successes.
More information about the Society’s postgraduate prize can be found here.
We warmly congratulate Chris on this excellent achievement.
Chapeau, Chris!
