The 2018-19 competition for doctoral studentships beginning October 2019 has now closed. Applications for entry in 2020-21 will open in September 2019.

The Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP offers at least 77 doctoral studentships each year, across the range of arts and humanities subject areas. In addition to funding for fees and living costs (depending on eligibility), OOC DTP students benefit from being able to access a variety of other funding sources and a wide range of training available at the three partner universities.

The DTP offers two forms of doctoral studentship:

Full Awards

For candidates who meet the AHRC residency requirements, a full award covers the following for the duration of the funded period:

  • Maintenance grant at the RCUK national minimum doctoral stipend rate (£14,777 in 2018-19 for 12 months). If the award is for a period of less than 12 months in any year, the grant is reduced pro-rata to reflect the number of days for which a student is enrolled on course.
  • University tuition fees: fully covered.

Funding is adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time students.

Fees-only Awards

For students ordinarily resident in an EU country other than the UK, a fees-only doctoral award covers the University tuition fees for the duration of the funded period.

Funding is adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time students.
