Graduate students chatting, Oxford

The Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP will offer at least 77 doctoral studentships each year, across the full range of arts and humanities subject areas. We offer two routes for doctoral studentship funding.

Standard route competition This route asks you to design and propose a doctoral research project to be supervised by faculty members at one of the consortium universities.
Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs) CDA projects are jointly developed by OOC DTP faculty members and a partner organisation. Applicants are invited to define their approach to the outline project in discussion with the supervisors.

What the OOC DTP offers

For candidates who meet the eligibility requirements, a full award through the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC DTP offers:

  • Payment of university fees up to the 'home' rate throughout the funded period;
  • A tax-free maintenance grant at the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) minimum rate (£15,285 per annum for 2020-21);
  • An additional stipend of £550 per annum for CDA students, as a contribution towards additional costs incurred by working at the partner organisation as well as the home university;
  • The opportunity to apply to the DTP for an extension to studentship funding on the basis of individual training and reseach needs or to support a professional placement with an external organisation.

Funding is adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time students and where the award is for a period of less than 12 months in any year.

We also offer students training and researcher development opportunities, additional funding to support their individual research and training needs, and access to the resources and training offered by our consortium universities.
