Many congratulations to OOC DTP student Emma-Catherine Wilson (University of Oxford), who recently presented her doctoral research on medieval heralds to The Heraldry Society at the Royal Airforce Club in London.
Emma’s public lecture, titled ‘Heralds, Fame, and Chivalric Inspiration,’ took a broad perspective on the social status of late-medieval English and French heralds, a difficult matter for which there is much conflicting evidence. By weighing a number of case studies from historical records and literary sources, Emma’s lecture unpacked the dynamics of heralds’ interactions with the nobility and shed new light on the parameters of their power.
