Keynote speakers for AHRC International Conference 2026 announced

The organising committee of the AHRC International Conference 2026 is pleased to announce that two keynote speakers have been confirmed to address the conference in September:

  • Ture Laiti, an indigenous youth activist who campaigns for the Sami people in Finland; and
  • Professor Arkotong Longkumer, an anthropologist specialising in northeast India, its indigenous religions, and its experiences of Hindu nationalism.

Our speakers come from the different but convergent worlds of activism and academia, respectively, and will infuse the conference with change-making energy as well as inspiring intellectual reflection. Their areas of expertise, which both centre on the situation and rights of indigenous peoples, perfectly fit this year's theme Power and Possession.

There is still time for OOC DTP students to apply to present their work at the conference. Please see the Call for Papers on the conference webpage. The deadline for submissions is midday (12:00 GMT) on 8 May 2026.
