This term, Rowan Anderson (Oxford) and Anna Saroldi (Oxford) organised a conference titled ‘Fictions of Retranslations: Retranslating Language and Style in Prose Fiction’, which sought to bring together researchers in their field and address the lack of critical focus on retranslation studies. With three panels on ‘New methodologies in (re)translation studies’, ‘Politics and Censorship in Retranslation’ and ‘Agents and Agency in the Retranslated Text’, the conference brought together over 80 participants from over 20 countries for an engaging and dynamic discussion. The conference also featured a Q&A with writer and translator Oliver Ready, a leading translator of Russian classics including Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, and was part of the OCCT (Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation) research centre’s programme of events.
