Digital Media Skills - with former BBC journalist Vince Hunt

This training, will provide you with practical digital communication skills—writing, presenting, and recording—designed to help you share your work with impact. Vince Hunt, a former BBC producer, journalist, journalism lecturer, and media trainer, will apply key journalistic principles to show you how to summarise your research and communicate it clearly to new audiences.

The session begins with you developing and recording a concise, two-minute video pitch of your research. With Vince’s guidance on both structure and delivery, you’ll have the chance to practise presenting your work and discover effective ways to make it accessible to a wide range of audiences—from conferences and funding proposals to social media and interviews.

The second part of the session places you in a virtual podcast environment, where you’ll develop skills in critical listening and responding confidently to questions about your research. Vince will share practical advice on interview preparation and help you refine how you summarise and communicate your core messages. He’ll also share some tips on chairing debates and conducting interviews. These skills are especially useful for conference panels, podcast appearances, and professional interviews.

Taking part in this training is a great opportunity for you to develop your digital communication skills in a supportive environment with an expert in the field. You will come away from the session having gained skills in communicating a summary of ideas to new audiences.
