Integrating EDI into Research Development

About the session

Are you looking to make your research more ethical and inclusive? Embedding EDI in research is vital for strengthening funding proposals and then conducting that research with integrity.

This interactive workshop explores what it means to attend to issues around equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the research process, from design through to dissemination.

The content draws widely from theoretical, empirical, and methodological examples, including those from the facilitator’s experience of leading collaborative international research for major funders. Structured opportunities are provided throughout for participants to learn from each other by sharing challenges and successes from their own research.

We’ll consider:

•    Issues of power and privilege in research from relevant methodological and theoretical perspectives.
•    The ethical dilemmas that can occur around conducting research with attention to equity.
•    Equity for research teams, participants, and partners.
•    The challenges of collaboration, researching vulnerable groups, and international research.
•    The lasting impact of the pandemic.
•    EDI in the REF, drawing on evidence sources including UKRI.

By the end of this training, you will be able to:

•    Develop a plan for incorporating EDI into your research.
•    Identify and mitigate ethical risks in your research.
•    Collaborate effectively with diverse research teams.
•    Research vulnerable groups in an ethical and responsible way.
•    Conduct international research that is inclusive and respectful of local cultures.
