We are delighted to celebrate recent achievements from DTP student Daniel Brew, who has recently published a journal article and submitted his doctoral thesis.
Daniel’s article, “The Electric Guitar in 20th-Century Western Art Music: 1945–1960s,” has been published in Context: Journal of Music Research (51, 2025). The article explores how the electric guitar emerged as a powerful and expressive force in twentieth-century music, tracing its development across jazz, popular, and art music traditions.

Alongside this publication, Daniel has now submitted his doctoral thesis, marking an important milestone in his research journey. His work offers new perspectives on the role of the electric guitar in Western art music, highlighting its cultural and technological significance.
