My PhD examines legacies of surrealism circulating in Black Arts Movement poetry in the United States. Following an interdisciplinary approach, it weaves together art history, cultural history and close textual analysis to pay renewed attention to how global surrealist networks affected a mixed-media post-war Black poetics. It also works to locate alternative networks within the United States that emerged from this influence.
I studied for my undergraduate at Durham University and then completed my MA in Issues in Modern Culture at University College London.
