My PhD is in collaboration with Amgueddfa Cymru-National Museums Wales to study how gender and nationalism intersected in 20th century heritage spaces. I am based at St. Fagans National Museum of History near Cardiff and am completing my PhD part-time alongside work. My thesis explores the ways in which space and placemaking were disrupted by men and women transgressing their traditionally gendered roles during the processes of constructing, collecting, and curating the museum. My previous research has similarly been concerned with gender and placemaking, including the intersection of gender and class in mid-Victorian mining communities, as well as understanding gender as a limiting factor to outdoor heritage engagement during the pandemic.
