I am a DPhil student in Classics at Christ Church, Oxford. My doctoral thesis, titled ‘Pseudepigrapha as Senecan Reception’, researches the role that fakes and forgeries play in Seneca’s reception. From Antiquity to the Renaissance, pseudepigrapha were treated interchangeably with Seneca’s genuine works, thereby representing ‘Seneca’ for generations of readers. My project considers the varied range of Senecan pseudepigrapha in order to investigate how they responded to Seneca, and, in turn, shaped views of Seneca’s life and literary output.
Prior to the DPhil, I read for a BA in Literae Humaniores at Christ Church, followed by a MSt in Classical Languages and Literature at the same college. Alongside Seneca, I have broader interests in Augustan and Imperial literature, Hellenistic philosophy, textual criticism, and Neo-Latin literature.
