Daniel Brew is a PhD candidate in Music at the Open University working on theorising the Electric Guitar within 20th century electroacoustic music. He received a first class undergraduate degree in Music at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, in 2014, and went on to complete a Master of Music in Performance with Distinction in 2017. His Masters degree was funded with a postgraduate award from Help Musicians UK and his doctoral project is being supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council as part of the Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership.
In addition to his academic studies Daniels musical creativity has seen him play an integral role in many projects, spanning a wide range of musical styles, which regularly perform throughout the UK and internationally. Having joined Distractfold Ensemble as a guitarist in 2016 he has since taken over the role of executive producer for the group. Distractfold is a group of performers, composers and curators all acting out of shared love, passion and interest in the music and culture of our times. Together they have performed at numerous festivals and concert series worldwide and have been ensemble in residence at institutions such as Harvard University and Stanford University.
