Collaborative Doctoral Awards released for 2022/23

We are pleased to announce the release of eleven Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs) for entry in 2022-23 (one further CDA will be advertised soon).

CDAs provide studentship funding for doctoral projects that are developed in partnership with an organisation outside of higher education. Enabling collaboration with a diverse range of external partners, CDAs foster links that may have long-term benefits for both partners, as well as social, cultural and economic benefits to wider communities. For doctoral students, CDAs offer an opportunity to gain professional experience outside the university environment and to develop and enhance their skill set.

The Open University

• ‘Confronting canonicity and promoting diversity: Gender and contemporary concert programming’ with Dr Laura Hamer and Dr Manuella Blackburn (The Open University), and Gabriella Di Laccio (The Donne Foundation).
• ‘Imagining Asia at Ham House’ with Dr Amy Jane Barnes (The Open University) and Dr Hannah Mawdsley (The National Trust).
• ‘The art of translation: Developing multilingual digital resources using artificial intelligence to support translation in bioinformatics’ with Dr Wendi Bacon, Dr Andrew Gargett and Dr Severine Hubscher-Davidson (The Open University), and Sarah Morgan (EMBL-EBI).
• ‘The late Scottish Enlightenment in global perspective, 1770-1815’ with Dr Anna Plassart (The Open University) and Elizabeth Quarmby Lawrence (University of Edinburgh Library).
• ‘Welshness in the museum: Representing the past in Wales’ National Museums, c.1900-1975’ with Dr Richard Marsden (The Open University) and Kristine Chapman (AC-NMW).

University of Oxford

• ‘Marie-Antoinette: A queen of letters’ with Professor Catriona Seth FBA (University of Oxford), and Dr Mathieu da Vinha and Dr Alexandre Maral (Directeur du Centre de recherche du château de Versailles).
• ‘Private actors, public memory and provenance research: Contextualising the Liebermann-Villa, Berlin’ with Professor Abigail Green (University of Oxford) and Dr Lucy Wasensteiner (Liebermann-Villa).

University of Cambridge

• ‘Diversity in design: People and the planet’ with Professor Michael H. Ramage (University of Cambridge) and Simon Smith (Smith and Wallwork Engineers).
• ‘Labour and Livelihoods of Disabled People in Britain, c. 1970-2015’ with Professor Lucy Delap (University of Cambridge) and Jonathan Pledge (The British Library).
• ‘Ormesby Hall and modern British Theatre’ with Professor Drew Milne (University of Cambridge) and Jonathan Wallis (The National Trust).
• ‘Writing technologies in transition: Legal and literary material practices in late medieval England’ with Professor Orietta Da Rold (University of Cambridge), Dr Suzanne Paul (Cambridge University Library) and Dr Euan Roger (The National Archives).
